What I'm watching: Ugly delicious
When I moved to Italy I brought my TV with me, even though it would have been easier to buy one here. I had just gotten it and was emotionally attached to it. What I didn't know is that the cable jack is different, and there is no antenna service where I am. The only programming I have is what I can get from the internet. So basically, Netflix and YouTube.
The good news is that Netflix global catalog gets better all the time, so I'm not missing too much. Obviously every show about cooking goes in my watchlist as soon as it is posted. One of the latest releases: Ugly Delicious.
What a surprise to find that there is a word for my type of cooking. Ugly Delicious is what David Chang, chef and producer of the show, calls the type of food he seeks.
One caveat, this is not a cooking show. There are no recipes, or descriptions, or specific dishes discussed, there's no restaurants to be recommended. It's about food and culture, how food brings us together and sets us apart, how different people contribute to food culture, how it both reflects and affects our world. How the world is big, but we all suff protein inside a pocket of dough. Happy watching!
