Poha is made of flakes of flattened rice. It is cooked with peanuts, potatoes, spices and lime. It’s a breakfast food, salty, filling, quick to make, and delicious.
Even if you are not a big fan of beets, which most people aren’t, you should try it. And let me know you family and friends’ reaction, ranked between “I never though I would enjoy beets this much” and “well, that actually wasn’t too bad”
My mom used to cook them a lot when I was a child: they are cheap, they keep in the pantry a long time, and they are nutritious, what is not to like? Lentils are a great starter bean, because they are soft and flavorful, with little rinsing and no soaking required.
If you've seen Ratatouille, you know that part of what we do when we cook and eat, is look for the flavors that we remember from childhood. For me that flavor is of tomato sauce, made with ripe tomatoes, cooked to perfection in an iron pan, and seasoned maybe a bit too much.
One of our favorite things to do is invite people over on a Sunday afternoon to play board games. It's a lovely time, we play some music, try new games and have something to munch on.
